A STUDY OF EFFECT OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS ON VALUES OF SENIORSECONDARY STUDENTS

Abstract
The study aims to find out the effect of socioeconomic status on values of senior secondary
students. A survey method has been adopted in this study. By using the simple random
sampling technique 150 senior secondary students has been selected as a sample for this
study. To collect the data from the sample Personal Value Questionnaire developed by Dr.
G.P. Sherry and Dr. R.P. Verma has been used to obtain value score. This test is specially
designed for Indian population to assess the following 10 values- Religious, Social,
Democratic, Aesthetic, Economic, Knowledge, Hedonistic, Power, Family Prestige and
Health. Upadhyay-Saxena Socio-economic Status Scale (USSESS) developed by Sunil
Kumar Upadhyay and Alka Saxena has been used to identify students with high, average and
low socio-economic status. The analysis of the data reveals that there is no significant
difference in values of senior secondary students on the basis of their socio-economic status.
