Abstract
India is ranked 15th in plastic waste generation countries over the top 20 countries generating plastic waste. India is producing plastic waste generation is 4.49 million ton. Individual consumption of plastic is the largest cause of single-trip plastic.Plastic, on the other hand, is long-lasting and degrades slowly. Plastic materials produced in large quantities for the manufacturing of other plastic products end up as waste. Our incredible attraction to plastic, combined with an undeniable proclivity for over-consumption, discarding, littering, and thus polluting, has resulted in a combination of nature's devastation. Residents' social behavior is believed to have played a role in decreasing single use plastic by individuals. By using the theory of planned behavior, this study investigated what are the factors that affect resident’s behavioral intention of single use plastic. This is a quantitative study utilized structured questionnaire from 741 respondents in Ambala, Haryana, India. The data has been analyzed using regression. Results showed that people in Ambala, awareness of environment, societal pressure, and perceived behavioral control have a substantial impact on single-trip plastic lowering behavioral intention.
