Abstract
Child well-being is the priority concern in India and at global level. Number of welfare schemes and safety
provisions have been introduced globally to protect the interest of child. After having a huge list of child
protection provisions, agencies and activities, complaints related to child safety and protection are increasing
day by day. There are few bodies who are appointed as administrators to check: whether the laws are fulfilling
its purpose or not; whether people are following the laws or not or whether the administrators are performing
their duties in a manner prescribed or not. To maintain the trust of public/ citizens in the government the fairness
and accountability is important. To check the performance of administrators who are answerable towards
individuals or public at large there is an institution called ‘Ombudsman’. In this research paper the researcher is
highlighting the objective of introducing the office of children’s ombudsman, its functions, its rate of success
and the scope of improvement of the functioning. The research has covered the structure and functioning of
ombudsman in than forty five countries globally including Sweden, UK, USA and India to better understand the
significance of the office of ombudsman. Researcher has relied upon secondary data to conduct this research.
