Abstract
When academic institutions began to take an interest in agricultural economic difficulties around the turn of the 20th century, agricultural economics emerged as a distinct field of study. Yield growth has dropped to rates that are too low to be comfortable, despite investments and technical breakthroughs in agriculture that are increasing productivity.
