Abstract
Gender-based violence (GBV) has evolved in the digital era, manifesting in new and complex ways that transcend physical boundaries. Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) includes cyberstalking, online harassment, doxxing, revenge pornography, and deepfake abuse, disproportionately affecting women and marginalized communities. The anonymity and accessibility of digital platforms have enabled perpetrators to target individuals with little accountability, exacerbating psychological, social, and economic harm. This paper explores the nature, impact, and legal frameworks surrounding TFGBV, emphasizing how digital tools can both empower and endanger individuals. While social media and communication technologies provide spaces for advocacy and connection, they also serve as breeding grounds for misogyny, discrimination, and exploitation. The paper also examines how intersectional factors, such as race, sexuality, and socioeconomic status, influence the severity and consequences of digital GBV.Despite growing awareness, legal and policy responses remain fragmented and insufficient in addressing the global nature of online violence. This research highlights the urgent need for stronger legislation, platform accountability, and digital literacy programs to combat TFGBV. Additionally, it advocates for survivor-centered approaches that prioritize mental health support, access to justice, and technological safeguards.By critically analyzing existing responses and proposing multidimensional solutions, this paper contributes to the discourse on digital safety, gender rights, and the ethical responsibilities of digital platforms. In an era where technology shapes social interactions, ensuring safe and inclusive online spaces is crucial to dismantling gender-based violence in all its forms.
