Development of creating knowledge reagrding smatphone injury among dental students

Abstract
Background: The use of smartphones has been exponentially increasing, and they have become an integral part of
everyday life. Although significant concerns have been made about smartphone addicts and their injuries. The main
aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and awareness about smartphone injury among dental college
students.
Materials and methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among dental students with a sample size of 90. A
self administered structured questionnaire was prepared based on knowledge, attitude and awareness of smartphone
injury among dental college students and consisted of 10 questions. It was circulated to participants through an
online platform (google form). The statistics were done using SPSS software and chi square test was used to check
the association and p value of 0.05 was said to be statistically significant.
Result: From the study 90% were aware that excessive usage of phones lead to many disorders. 70% of them knew
that more than 3 hours of phone usage caused smartphone pinky. 89% of them responded that longer usage of
smartphone causes eye strain. 30% of males were aware cell phones strains the ulnar nerve to 70%.
Conclusion:The study revealed that most of the study participants were aware about smartphone injury and many of
them developed behaviour with smartphones. Longer usage of smartphones may lead to further physiological and
psychological complications. So this study may increase the awareness among participants to reduce the use of
smartphones for longer duration and they will be away from smartphone injury
