Abstract
Introduction:
Acetic acid with chemical formula CH3COOH, is an organic acid and is commonly used in both household and
industrial uses. In households it is commonly called vinegar and in industries it is called as glacial acetic acid that
has a concentration about 90% and sometimes used in the concentration of 80%.In bone the acetic acid may cause
minimal calcium loss to osteoporosis and due to which the bone becomes weakened and unstable.
Oral intake of acetic acid causes dental erosion within one week, and on prolonged intake might cause oral tissue
damage and destruction
Aim:
To know the structural and colour change of human tissue due to the effect of acetic acid over a period of time.
Materials and method:
Tissue was collected from the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the acid was collected from the
department of Biochemistry. The collected tissue was then kept in acetic acid for different time intervals of three
days.
Results:
According to the observations made we could say that there is an adverse effect of the acetic acid over the Oral
buccal mucosal tissue and this changes over different periods of time.
Conclusion:
From the results we have got we could understand the action of acetic acid over the human tissue and we could get
some awareness about how to use and what precautions should be taken while using the acetic acidThere might be
some uses of acetic acid in the medical field due to these properties shown by the acetic acid.
