Abstract
Objective – To perform the HPTLC investigation , invitro antioxidants and neuroprotective effects of whole plant
Boerhavia Erecta L.
Methods - Boerhavia Erecta L extracts has undergone qualitative and quantitative examination ; quantitative
investigation was done by total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and total alkaloidal content. DPPH (1,1
diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl), Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, Nitric Oxide scavenging activity, and superoxide
radical scavenging activity were used to accomplish the in vitro antioxidant experiments. Prism graph pad version 9
was used for statistical data. The HPTLC finger print analysis was performed to screen out the phytoconstituents in
the ethanolic fraction of Boerhavia Erecta L. whole plant . After that cell viability was determined by using
neuroblastoma cells and MTT test techniques, which gives more light on the cell morphology and viability of
Boerhavia Erecta L.
Results and discussion - In the extracts of Boerhavia erecta Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the
presence of Carbohydrate. Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Phenol , Saponins extracts. Quantitative investigations exposed
the presence of flavonoid, high in ethanolic fraction ( 232.5±2.1 µg ), acetone ( 96.3±1.2 µg ) , Aqueous (52.1±1.7
µg) fractions were found to be higher in successive manner .Apart from this phenolic and alkaloidal content was
confirmed in the extracts of Boerhavia erecta, were ethanolic fraction and acetone fraction were higher when
compared to the remaining extract of Boerhavia erecta and aqueous comes next in both phenolic and alkaloidal
content. The antioxidant investigation both BEEF - Boerhavia erecta ethanolic fraction and BEAqF - Boerhavia
erecta aqueous fraction remains higher in DPPH, Hydroxyl radical scavenging, Nitric Oxide scavenging activity
and Superoxide radical scavenging activity. And IC 50 values gives more authentication to the results that have high
lightened from various assays. HPTLC finger print analysis was also performed to identify the hidden
phytoconstituents and this express the presence of β-Sitosterolin the ethanolic fraction of Boerhavia erecta by
derivatization at 366 nm. Neuroprotective effects of Boerhavia erecta was investigated by activity by using SHSY5Y (Neuroblastoma cells) cell line followed by MTT assay method. The results reveal that the plant having
neuroprotective effects.
Conclusion – Boerhavia ErectaL whole plant was investigated to identify its efficacy in scavenging free radicals and
its potentiality in neuroprotective efficacy in cell line. The ethanolic fraction of Boerhavia Erecta having better
antioxidant activity and scavenging property to reduce the toxicity. The HPTLC investigation has revealed the
presence of Bet-Sitosterol in the ethanolic fraction, Beta-Sitosterol, a naturally occurring sterol molecule, is a mild
to moderate antioxidant that has favourable in vitro effects by lowering reactive oxygen species levels. Cell viability
was determined by SHSY-5Y cells accompanied by MTT assay. And this reflects the neuroprotection of extracts.
