Abstract
"Homeless" refers to those who do not have permanent housing and instead reside in temporary locations such as the streets, sidewalks, huge sewage pipes, beneath flyovers, in religious buildings or on train platforms (Census of India, 2001). They make up a significant fraction of a city's population, and their steady increase causes a major disproportion in the city's functions and morphology. They are so impoverished that they have nothing to show for their existence. Physical, social, economic, political, and environmental issues all have a role in contributing to homelessness. Within this context, the current investigation seeks to investigate the economic and social circumstances of the homeless.
