Abstract
Aim of the study:
Assessment of perception of dental phobia among dental students and medical students.
Introduction:
Dental anxiety or fear are the major reasons to cancel the appointment and ignore the dental care thus resulting
in deterioration of their personal oral health. These situations will occur to many people of different ages and
social status. This can be accounted for by the diverse effects of a number of psychological factors in this age
range that will increase dental fear and dental anxiety.
Materials and methods:
The sample size used for the study is 110. A self structured questionnaire is being prepared and uploaded in
google forms . This standard questionnaire in google forms is being circulated among the sample study
population and at the end of the survey. All data was tabulated and statistical analysis was done using SPSS
software version 23
Results:
Whereas the present study explains that the participants who control their anxiety 42.73% of the participants
counsel their doctors , 19.09% participants medicate, 28.18% participants sedate in consciousness and 10% of
the participants meditate and relax. On Chi Square analysis there was no statistical significance among gender
for reducing anxiety through counselling by doctors (P-1.74)
Conclusion:
It was concluded that dental students have lowest anxiety scores. The students were mostly anxious about tooth
drilling and local anaesthetic injection.
