Abstract
Mobile library app (MLA) is one of the technologies being embraced and adopted for the provision of information services from the library to users at dispersed locations. This study explores the predictors of librarians’ adoption of mobile library applications for service delivery in South-west Universities, Nigeria. Specifically, the study determined the mobile-app self-efficacy levels of librarians; examined the performance expectancy of librarians’ adoption of mobile-app; investigated the influence of institutional policy on adoption of mobile-app; assess the influence of mobile-app self-efficacy levels on the adoption of mobile-app and ascertained the relationship between performance expectancy and librarians’ adoption of mobile-app for service delivery in South-west universities, Nigeria. The study employed the descriptive survey design of correlational type with a population of 476 librarians from universities in South-west, Nigeria. Questionnaire and interview guide were used for data collection and validated by experts. The validity and reliability of the instruments were ascertained; Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0.89 was obtained. The research questions were analysed using descriptive statistics, the hypotheses tested with Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the mobile-app self-efficacy and performance expectancy of librarians’ mobile-app adoption were high. Furthermore, institutional policy (r = 0.264; p <0.05) has a statistically significant influence on librarians’ adoption of mobile-app for service delivery; mobile-app self-efficacy (r = -0.095; p >0.05) have a negative (statistically insignificant) relationship with librarians’ adoption of mobile-app for service delivery, while performance expectancy (r = 0.369; p <0.05) has a statistically significant positive relationship with librarians’ adoption of mobile-app for service delivery in South-west universities, Nigeria. Based on the findings, conclusion and appropriate recommendations were made.
