Dr. Israa Al-Heib
Abstract
"Literature—whether poetry or prose—springs from the soul, colored by its various hues, and expresses its innermost feelings, movements, and stillness. It is influenced by what the soul experiences during childhood, youth, and old age, either consciously or unconsciously. Thus, literature has greatly benefited from psychology, more so than from other sciences such as sociology, history, geography, or others.
Many serious and outstanding literary studies have been based on psychology. Among them are, for example, the studies of Al-Aqqad on various characters, and the studies of Dr. Izz al-Din Ismail, among others in the Arab world, as well as Freud, Jung, Rogers, and others in the West.
In our study of Ibn Shahid's literature, we will attempt to benefit from these studies, as the 'Self' is a significant aspect of psychological studies that cannot be overlooked and must be the starting point. Through this, we will uncover the secrets of his personality by examining various aspects of his life and the psychological concepts and human phenomena linked to it, which clearly manifest in his poetry and prose, while often remaining hidden between the lines. This will lead us to a relatively clear picture of Ibn Shahid's personality and the inflation of the ego in his overall literature."
