GENDER DISPARITY IN PRESCHOOL ATTENDANCE OF CHILDREN: AN EXPLORATIVE STUDY IN ASSAM

Abstract
The concept of preschool is immensely important and beneficial to ensure the readiness of children towards enrolment in formal schooling. This study has been undertaken in the context of Assam with the objectives to investigate, analyze and understand the nature, extent and variation of gender disparity in preschool attendance of children in the age group of 2 to 4 years with the help of data taken from the report of National Family and Health Survey (NFHS- 5) 2019-21. The study using descriptive analysis method found that, gender disparity in the context of preschool attendance of children prevails in Assam with variation across residential status and districts along with the gender biasedness favouring the girls. Suitable suggestions are forwarded based on the findings of the study.
