Pages: 510-522
Abstract
This study aims to provide a cultural reading of Salim Betka's novel "The Cardinal's Mass," which contains various themes. It seeks to evoke historical events and narrate them through a fictional lens, witnessing a rewriting of the story through the power of imagination and bringing forgotten histories back to the forefront. This contributes to bridging the temporal gap that separates us from real events, presenting a dramatic narration of the historical incident known as "Black Sunday." This is achieved through a recounting of actions and words, with a narrative structure that interweaves cultural contexts, balancing between the realms of reality and fiction. Such an approach positively impacts the reading experience by enriching the reader’s knowledge and enhancing their awareness of their historical past.
