Abstract
The social, cultural, and economic lives of those who watch television have been shown to be profoundly influenced by the medium. Based on the notion of media imperialism, this investigation examines how the media contributes to the spread and establishment of contemporary imperialistic forces outside of the realm of direct military and political control. The data presented demonstrates that India's media has developed into a substantial marketplace. Up until 1991, the Indian government strictly regulated what was shown on television, using development-focused shows and the news network as a mouthpiece for the governing party. Using a triangulation of sources, the researcher in this study set out to define media imperialism, trace its historical development, identify its defining characteristics, and investigate how these features have influenced the television industry in India. The industrialized Western world's hegemony in the media has led to a transmission of Western cultural norms and lifestyle to the vulnerable undeveloped and emerging nations.
