Abstract
Countries on both sides of the immigration issue, sending and receiving nations, have
discussed the pros and cons of allowing dual citizenship. An estimated 15.6 million
Indians live in around 200 different countries, making up the biggest diaspora in the
world. This is according to a recent study conducted by the UN Department of Economic
and Social Affairs. Due to considerations that also need to be considered by India, a
rapidly developing country, dual citizenship has become the standard at the global level.
People of Indian ancestry should be able to acquire and maintain plural citizenship and
dual citizenship without jeopardising State interests or individual autonomy, just as the
country was able to draught one of the world's largest constitutions in writing and
contribute to the largest Diaspora that serves a major role in the world's advancement.
This article discusses how holding dual citizenship might influence one's political beliefs.
