Knowledge Regarding Vaginal Candidiasis

Abstract
Vaginal Candidiasis is most common infection seen in female. The prevalence rate of vaginal Candidiasis
is increasing in today's world. Vaginal Candidiasis is most common vaginal infection caused by Candida.
Pregnant women are more prone to get vaginal infection than the adolescent girls. Some common risk
factors of vaginal Candidiasis are pregnancy, diabetic patient, HIV infection, irregular menstrual cycle and
poor personal hygiene etc. Vaginal Candidiasis can cause thick and white discharge from vagina, intensive
itching, irritation and pain. Vaginal Candidiasis can prevent by balance diet, maintain personal hygiene and
use cotton clothes. Bad habits should be avoided such as alcohol consumption etc. The current study was
conducted with an aim to assess the knowledge regarding vaginal Candidiasis among adolescent girls in
selected urban areas of Pune City.
Method: - The quantitative research approach was used for this study. The sample size was 100. It included
adolescent girls of age 13-19 years. The structured questionnaire tools used to collect data. The tool was
evaluated and validated by 5 experts. The questionnaire consist 20 items and two section (Demographic
section & knowledge section).
Results: - In this study (51%) of the adolescents were having below average followed by average (36%),
poor (12%) & good (1%) knowledge regarding vaginal Candidiasis. The education variable is associated
with Level of Education as the chi-square calculated value (7.22) is more than table value (3.84).
Conclusion:-The study was conducted among adolescents with the aim to identify the level of knowledge
regarding vaginal Candidiasis. From the past literatures on the similar topic, it was evident that the
adolescents are having moderate knowledge regarding the said variable. The findings of the current study
also reveal that the adolescents were having below average knowledge. These findings suggest that there is
a growing need of educating the adolescents on this research variable of vaginal Candidiasis.
