Abstract
In the digital age, libraries have transformed from traditional repositories of physical books to dynamic hubs of digital information and lifelong learning. This paper explores the critical role of libraries in promoting information literacy, defined as the ability to recognize information needs, locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. The evolution of libraries is traced from historical perspectives to their current state, highlighting the impact of technological advancements on library services. The importance of information literacy in academic success, professional competence, and personal decision-making is underscored. The paper examines how libraries foster information literacy through educational programs, collaboration with educational institutions, online resources, and the expertise of librarians. It also addresses contemporary challenges such as information overload, the digital divide, privacy concerns, and misinformation. Strategies for enhancing information literacy, including integrating it into curricula, continuous librarian training, user-friendly digital platforms, and promoting critical thinking, are discussed. Looking ahead, the paper considers emerging technologies, the evolving role of libraries, and the importance of lifelong learning in sustaining information literacy. The findings suggest that by embracing these future directions, libraries can continue to play a vital role in educating and empowering individuals in the digital era.
