Abstract
Mapping cultural heritage sites is crucial for their preservation, management, and interpretation. This paper explores the technologies used in mapping cultural heritage sites and the challenges associated with these efforts. Remote sensing techniques, including satellite imaging and aerial photography, are used to capture data about the Earth's surface. Ground-based techniques, such as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and GPS, are used to create detailed 3D models of cultural heritage sites. Challenges in mapping cultural heritage sites include the preservation of sites, data integration and management, accessibility and cost, and ethical and legal issues. Future directions for mapping cultural heritage sites include advancements in technology, integration with conservation efforts, and the potential for virtual and augmented reality. Overall, mapping cultural heritage sites plays a crucial role in preserving, documenting, and interpreting our shared heritage.
