Abstract
Commerce, governance, education, health, and relationship are just few of the areas where social media has had a significant impact on the digital world of the twenty-first century. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of social media, which include but are not limited to: confusion, health disruptions, exposure to cyberbullying, rumor propagation, skewed views on other people's lives, and peer influences. This study examines the influence of social networking sites inside the dynamical mindset of young people and finds that they provide a forum for discussing pressing issues that have gone unnoticed in the current context. The focus of this study is to determine how using social media affects the social lives of young people. The impacts of social media on adolescents' mental health were studied using statistical methods such the mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Those who spent less than two hours each day on social media had lower rates of depression, anxiety, and tension than those who spent more than two hours per day. The average levels of sadness, anxiety, and stress reported by adolescents who use social media for more than two hours per day were found to be significantly greater than those reported by their peers who use the sites for less than two hours per day. Stress, sadness, and anxiety all had t-values of 6.86, 5.88, and 5.39, respectively. As compared to the tabular t-value at the 0.01 threshold of significance, these values were rather high. The usage of social networking sites has grown ingrained in modern society. This article sheds insight on how and why young people use social media. A positive reception has been given to the modern social networking culture. The research show that young people experience both good and negative effects from their use of social media.
