Abstract
Creativity, according to Freud, is the sublimation of fundamental drives such as sexuality and sensuality. When you are not in a normal state of mind, you may experience fantasies, violence, or even destructive attitudes. Melanie Klein states that a destructive urge is a death wish associated with Thanatos. Vimala of 'Manju' (Mist) and Devi of 'Pandavapuram', two fictional Malayalam characters, sublimate their lives' bitter experiences beyond death wishes. This article examines how they have survived by carving out a space for themselves. Space and time are considered a feminist issue where the novel's protagonists transcend reality to create a niche for their existence. The spatial relations are observed under a theoretical lens on the lives of Vimala and Devi in this article to finally conclude that the novels fail to transcend the boundaries set by patriarchal norms.
