This study is an attempt to study the purpose in life of adolescents as purpose in life plays an important role in the development of an individual and social life of a person as well as the society. The Adolescence is a stage where the youngster attempts to disengage from the family and begin to develop independence and struggle to cope with responsibilities attached with independence. Adolescents usually have unrealistic aspirations not only for themselves but also for their families and friends and society. The more unrealistic they are, they suffer more from disappointment and disillusionment. Adolescents in the present society try to establish themselves as individuals by the status symbols in the form of cars, bikes, electric gadgets, dress and other readily observable material possessions. They feel that they can attract the attention to themselves and be recognized as individuals while maintaining their identity with peer group. It has been a common observation in the society that youth today try to celebrate, enjoy and project their individuality and supremacy by possessing material things or doing extraordinary things. The study will enlighten the parents and the society on healthy practices of bringing up a child and making him a responsible citizen of the nation.
