Abstract
Until recently, research activities have demonstrated a high need for remote lab trials in their
laboratory for Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring devices. Outside of conventional
hands-on laboratories, many clients share remote laboratories (RLs). As a result, basic remote
experiments need to meet instructors' objectives, so alternative forms of remote lab experiment
complexity come forward. The primary goal of this paper is to build a RL platform on which
all the engineering students can do experiments from remote locations at anytime, anyplace,
and anywhere with a simple and lightweight application that uses LabVIEW, Raspberry Pi, and
a web interface. All the required sensors and components are easily placed in the graphical user
interface window. Separate applications have been created for the teacher or instructor and the
students. Students may choose a type of experiment and it requires components from the same
window using a simple drag and drop operation. All the applications use the services of the
cloud, and lab experiments can be done once students’ login to the application after successful
verification. After completing the experiment, the student can view the results on the front panel
of the GUI and he or she can submit them. All the programming for the construction of the
remote lab prototype board runs on the Python platform.
