Role of Social Support in relationship between Fear of COVID-19 and Perceived Stress among Adolescent Girls

Abstract
COVID-19 second wave had caused the loss of job, business loss and death in India. The indirect negative impact is more prevalent among women, specially, the adolescent girls. Hence, the present study aimed to explore the relationship between fear of covid-19 and perceived stress and the role of social support among adolescent girls during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data was obtained from 209 adolescent girls using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale by Ahorsu et al (2020), the Perceived Stress Scale by Cohen (1994), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support by Zimet, Dahlem and Farely (1998). Descriptive analysis showed that 77% of the participants were from nuclear family and 23% from joint family, 92. 8% of the participants were from middle socioeconomic background. 65.1% of the participants displayed above the higher level of fear of COVID, the 75.6% of participants experienced moderate level of stress and 13.9% had high level. The mean score of social support was 64.91 indicating high level of social support exceeding the mid-point (42). Results showed significant positive relationship between fear of COVID and perceived stress; significant negative relationship between social support and perceived stress; fear of COVID and family support had significant influence on stress among adolescent girls.
