Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the experiences of insecurity among institutionalised adolescent orphans and to determine whether social work techniques are appropriate for use as intervention strategies. A questionnaire was used to gather sociodemographic information, and Govind Tiwari and Singh's (1975) Security-Insecurity Inventory was used to gauge feelings of insecurity. The data were statistically analysed to learn more about insecurity and related problems. The study's target population consisted of 1,021 teenage orphans in Tiruchirappalli District's 11 government-sponsored orphanages, who ranged in age from 13 to 17. Results show that 49.2% of respondents described their level of insecurity as medium, 25.8% described their level as high, and 25% described their level as low. Insecurities about the future, a lack of parental support, and inadequate carer support were cited as causes of insecurity. The study did not find any statistically significant differences in feelings of insecurity based on age, place of residence prior to admission to the institution, level of education, types of orphan hood, or length of stay in the institution. Through its various methods and approaches, social work can successfully assist people who are experiencing insecurity issues. According to the study, the targeted group of adolescent orphans needs evidence-based social work intervention strategies to address the identified feelings of insecurity and associated problems. Social workers can offer the support, tools, and systemic changes required to fight insecurity and advance the wellbeing of these vulnerable people by employing social work techniques like social case work, social group work, community organisation, social work research, social work administration, and social work action.
