Abstract
In the many-branched and flourishing world of literature, the short story emerged as a newly blossomed flower in the nineteenth century. Thus, the short story can be regarded as a product of the modern age. Unlike the tales of medieval fantasy, today’s short story is an artistically crafted portrayal of the laughter and tears, conflicts and struggles, clashes, yearning for freedom, and the desire for self-assertion found in the real, earthly world. The form, style, and character of the short story are distinct and diverse. For this reason, no universally accepted definition of the short story has yet been discovered. Regarding its definition, H. G. Wells has said—
