In this article, one of the types of toponyms - oikonyms, ways of formation of ethnonymic oikonyms derived from the names of tribes, nations, tribes, clans in their structure, changes in socio-political life, and other characteristics are studied in the example of Karakalpakstan ethno- oikonyms. The purpose of the study is to identify the origins of ethno- oikonyms, to determine the rich history of the language, the role of peoples’ migration in the study, as well as to reveal the theoretical basis of the study of ethnooikonyms.
