The Impact of Internet Addiction on Self-Esteem, and Loneliness AmongUniversity Students of Punjab,Pakistan

Abstract
Background and Aim: Internet addiction is a common prevailing problem among people in general, and particularly among university students. The whole world is a beneficiary of the internet and due to the internet world is converted into a global village. The major purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of internet addiction on self-esteem and loneliness among university students.
Method:Correlational design was used for investigate the present study.Convenient sampling technique was used for data collection. In the current study total 250 students including 125 male students and 125 female students were selected from the different private and government universities located in Punjab, Pakistan. In order to measuring the variables Revised Chen Internet Addiction Scale, Rosenberg self-esteem scale and UCLA Loneliness Scale were used. For calculation of the results SPSS-24.0 were used, while descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including Pearson correlation, independent sample t-test and regression analysis were applied.
Findings:Results of the current study shows all the three hypotheses approved. The first hypothesis approved (P<.05) and finding shows that there is significant correlation existed between internet addiction, self-esteem and loneliness. The second hypothesis of the current study is also approved (P<.05) and findings indicated that internet addiction is big predictor of poor self-esteem and loneliness among the university students while the 3rd hypothesis of this study is also approved (P<.05), that the level of internet addiction, self-esteem and loneliness is different on the basis of gender differences.
Conclusion:To conclude, various experimental discoveries uncovered that the understudies of the colleges are at tall hazard to mental well-being issues. The discoveries of the display think about recommended that college student’s population juvenile specific the understudies who are considering within the distinctive colleges in Pakistan are at more hazard to mental wellbeing issues, i.e., on the variable of destitute self-esteem, loneliness due to web habit. Certain proactive variables position, related stressors and self-esteem demonstrate to be significant in their mental well-being.
