Abstract
The present paper aims at studying the importance of translating texts from Arabic into English in the improvement third year students of English academic writing quality. It seeks to measure the effects exercised by the translation subject on improving the quality of essays produced by third year students. It attempts to study the manner in which practicing translation from the students’ mother tongue (Arabic) into English assists them in avoiding the various mistakes while producing essays they are required. The study would be based on a questionnaire addressed to students. The aspects studied herein would be grammar, vocabulary, coherence and cohesion. The aspects on which the study is based seem to be shared between the two subjects; they are important in both academic writing and translation in terms of assessment by teachers and in terms of written production by students.
