Abstract
Sports are a basic human activity that exists in all societies, regardless of their
level of progress, as they are linked to other social systems in a developmental
relationship. Sports have multiple roles in achieving comprehensive development,
building national identity, and instilling citizenship values in young people. The
concept of sports goes beyond the physical and competitive aspect to include social
and cultural dimensions, as it enhances interaction between people and affects social
relations. School sports are part of the school curriculum. Some see it as just a
means of entertainment and stress relief, but in reality it has deeper dimensions, such
as instilling a spirit of citizenship that has become threatened in the age of social
media. School sports also contribute to discovering sports talents among students,
which opens the way for their qualification and representing their national teams in
the future, as the school is considered a launching pad for players towards clubs and
national teams.
