Abstract
India's socioeconomic prosperity and the rise of entrepreneurship, particularly among women, are
closely related. Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which have been essential in empowering rural women by
providing them with access to loans and financial support, have become more prevalent in recent
years. However, women's progress towards empowerment has been hampered by their marginalisation
and a lack of sufficient resources. Women's empowerment microfinance programmes have had a
varied track record, with varying degrees of success. While SHGs have shown to be helpful in
boosting women's economic and social empowerment, it is yet unknown how they would affect
psychological empowerment. It is crucial to overcome the obstacles that marginalised women
confront, whether they be societal biases, financial limitations, or limited opportunities, to secure their
inclusion in SHGs. India can create an environment where all women have the chance to reach their
potential and advance the country by making these efforts.
